Report Animal Abuse
What You Can Do for a More Humane Society
  1. Call your U.S. Senators @ 202-224-3121 & ask them to support and co-sponsor animal protection legislation now pending in Congress.
  2. Call your U.S. Representative @ 202-224-3121 & ask him or her to support and co-sponsor animal protection legislation now pending in Congress.
  3. Join the Humane Society Legislative Fund Action Network on their website at https://.hslf.org or contact them @ 202-676-2314. Ask 5 friends to join too!
  4. Don't forget to register to vote, if you haven't already done so. Register online @ https://www.eac.gov/voters/register-and-vote-in-your-state.
  5. Investigate how your legislators voted on animal protection issues. You can get a copy of the Humane Society's Scorecard by calling 202-676-2314 or visiting https://hslf.org.
  6. If you see animal cruelty in your community, report it to your local police department or humane society.
  7. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper urging readers to support animal protection legislation.
  8. Spay or neuter your pets to help reduce the number of homeless dogs and cats.
  9. Adopt a pet from your local animal shelter to save the life of a homeless animal. NEVER support a puppy mill and ask your pet store if the cats and dogs for sale come from non-mill sources. Puppy mills are savage, brutal places and should be eliminated!
  10. Never abandon a pet if you become unable to care for its needs. Find a good home to replace you, or pay a local resource to care for your friend. Cats and dogs left on the streets to fend for themselves die slow, hideous deaths of deprivation, predation, or starvation. Cats and dogs are NOT indigenous species that can live on their own.
  11. Don't leave your animal outside at night or in a 'house' during cold, inclement weather. They suffer from the cold and heat just like humans.
  12. Never de-claw your cat. It's a cruel operation in which the last digit of the cats' toes are removed. If your cat should get outside or lost after de-clawing it would be utterly unable to defend itself.
  13. Shop with compassion. Always buy cosmetics free of animal testing and clothing and accessories free of fur or fur trim.

“I believe cats to be spirits come to earth. A cat, I am sure, could walk on a cloud without coming through.”
