You Should Know:
ALL FERAL CATS are euthanized in county shelters.
A VERY HIGH percentage of pre-owned, dumped, or left-behind cats are euthanized in county shelters. Even at the Humane Society, if a cat is in less than optimin health, chances are it will be euthanized. Shelters are not run by cruel people. They are staffed by people overwhelmed with the number of homeless, abandoned, sick animals on our city streets, and they lack money and resources to help them all. Please do not abandon your animal. Find a home for it. If you must release your pet to a shelter, make sure he/she won't be euthanized after a time limit. You might consider a smaller, privately run organization that uses foster homes. Your pet will already be traumatized losing you, losing his/her home, and being placed with someone who is committed to loving and caring for him/her will make a difference. Make sure your friend's life is guaranteed. Thank you!

If you find an abandoned cat or dog, and your local Humane Society can't guarantee it will be placed in a forever home, call around, find an individually run NO-KILL shelter, usually operating with 'foster homes' who will care for the animal until a forever home is found. And please leave a donation. These small animal charities run on donations. The money is used to save feral kittens/puppies who can be socialized, and abandoned cats or dogs. The animals are protected, given basic medical, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and offered for adoption. The people who run them are never paid anything but love. All monies help the animals in a legitimate 501c.

Please support these humane efforts by getting your pet from such a place. NEVER support a Puppy Mill supplying dogs to Pet Stores! They are a scourge of brutality that should be erased from the planet.

ARErescue.org - operating in Hemet & Banning CA as a NO-KILL shelter & foster network
An amazing rescue operation saving roughly 3,000 cats & dogs yearly, proving how much a few determined people can do. Please use the link above to offer donations or to volunteer. We need more people and resources in this somewhat rural area. Any kind of help saves lives. Thank you for all you do.

I'm partial to the following organization for the San Diego area: Rescue House, based in Encinitas, CA
 The Rescue House
Motto: To Take In Stray And Abandoned Cats And Care For Their Medical And Shelter Needs Until They Can Be Adopted By The Public.
This is a worthy organization you can trust to love and care for your relinguished pet, the dumped stray you found, or orphaned kittens. It's a NO-KILL network.

"The raccoons, foxes, beavers, chinchillas, minks, rabbits, and yes, sometimes even dogs and cats that are killed for fur are not very different from your beloved dog or cat.
They all have eyes, ears and hearts. They all experience pain when they are physically maimed.
They shake with fear when they experience terror.
